Whitehead vs Blackhead

What are they?

Whiteheads and blackheads are a type of mild acne caused by clogged pores.

WHITEHEAD is a closed comedone which contains bacteria and hasn’t been exposed to air. Hence, it stays as white.

BLACKHEADis an open comedone which has been clogged with sebum. When exposed to air, the clogged pores turn black.

How to treat them?

As both are considered a mild form of acne, the treatmentis similar to treating acne skin. Products that can help inremoving excess sebum and balance the oil productioncan be used to treat whiteheads and blackheads.

Look out for ingredients such assalicylic acid, witch hazel, tea tree, willow bark, alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) and french green clay which can help in the treatment.

Use anexfoliating scrub andclay mask at least once a week as part of your skincare routine. These will help to get rid of dead skin, remove excess oil and deeply cleanse your pores.

If youuse makeup, practise double cleansing i.e. remove makeup with a cleansing oil or balm first, followed by a gentle, foaming cleanser. This is to ensure that makeup is properly removed and not trapped in pores.
